I’m curious, how much time did you devote to making the decision about what organization to give to? Was it part of a larger plan? Did you sit down in January and make some giving goals for the year? Did you consider the tax implications of your donation? Did you consider that there are 86,000 registered charities in Canada alone? Did you research to learn if the charity is something that you care deeply about?
Many of us are guilty of not being mindful regarding our giving.
Think about it… how often are you asked to give money to a cause? I’ll bet you’re not even aware of it.
I used to give every time the phone rang. Sometimes it was my sole responsibility to send all the children in the city to the circus.Another time it seemed that the entire police force was depending on me to single-handedly finance the end of child pornography and if I didn’t contribute then I clearly did not care about children.
That is, until I went through the ☺Mindful Money Management program for myself. I don’t get conned anymore because the program taught me that these were not charitable organizations at all but businesses manipulating me and making money out of my guilt. I think that we all want to give, but out of love not out of guilt.
Even when you get asked to give at the checkout – that’s a charity they chose not one that you’ve given thought to. You think you are helping but when you join the mindful you realize things are not always as they appear.
Never mind the tax advantages: I can guide you through that – think about your giving and cast a vote for what’s important to you.☺Mindful Money Management has exposed me to people who have become engaged in causes that they are passionate about and those causes give their lives new meaning. These people give by applying themselves to a cause.
What if you could apply your donation to a cause that you feel a deep connection to? What if you could find a charitable organization whose goals were so in line with your purpose that you were excited to get involved every time there was a need and you were asked to help?
A meaningful gift flows from the giver to the receiver but it touches both the giver and the receiver.
Join the mindful and create a better world. Below is a link to a Mindful Money Management podcast where I interviewed Anne MacKay. Anne talks about many things to consider when you plan your contribution. You’ll enjoy getting to know her.
